Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer – aim for a dozen new people each time.
Don’t forget to visit them and thank them for co-hosting!
Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.
Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
Remember, the question is optional!
November 06th Question: What creative activity do you engage in when you’re not writing? What are creative activities? A random google search produced the following: dance, drawing, gardening, photography, bead jewellery, make simple puppets, DIY projects, craft, painting, music, roleplaying, collage, doodle art, mug painting, hand lettering, drama, puppetry, origami, art, coloring, journaling, scrapbooking, natural art, improvisation, calligraphy, knitting, crochet, Zentangle, cartooning, costume making, flower arranging, glassblowing, landscaping, nail art, pottery, sculpting, quilting, soap making, tattoo art, macramé, sketching… and I think that’s the tip of the iceberg. There is something for everybody!
Musical activities such as playing the piano, singing and dancing have always been my favorite creative activities. My latest creative outlet is Canva which I recently discovered and I’ve been trying it out. I used it to design my logo/header for my new teaching business Facebook page. I’m also trying to expand my teaching business by designing a writing course as part of my online teaching curriculum. Edtech (education technology) is the buzzword, and I refuse to become obsolete, so I’m also experimenting with various course creation tools. It has been a steep learning curve but the possibilities are endless. For now, it’s a work-in-progress. Exciting times. If you’re on Facebook, you can check out my page and like/follow: HERE
What are your creative activities? Do you use Canva? Can you give me some Edtech tips/suggestions?
Hi Michelle – that’s big learning curve – good for you … it’ll be unique which will encourage members along. I don’t play sport anymore … but do use the grey cells as I investigate and research interesting subjects – cheers and all the best – Hilary
Yep, Canva has become my nearest thing to another creative pursuit these days. I was surprised how easily I picked it up. I consume music daily but I learned long ago that trying to perform it was a no-no for me. I always admire those who can!
Canva is awesome. I liked how easy to use it is, and that I can collaborate with friends on projects. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work on my work’s network, otherwise I’d use it for whiteboarding too.
Michelle! I’m popping back in after…how many years has it been? Too long. That’s awesome that you have an educational series up and coming! Whew! One of my away activities has been teaching teenagers writing courses in person, including some digital resource creation. (Even one MUSIC writing course.) So fulfilling! So much work.
*fist bump* (On the music front.) That’s my go-to as well, but I’m not as much a pianist as a composer/vocalist. Choir has been revitalizing me this last month…while my PROFESSIONAL musical pursuits have been awesome but the usual creative rollercoaster: at the top one moment, at the bottom the next. Whew! I’m ready for some even ground.
I don’t know Canva but you are the second person who posted about it today, so I need to take a look.
Good luck with that writing course! I can play music but I can’t sing or dance to it.

I always wished I was more musical. Believe me when I tell you that no one wants to hear me sing or see me dance. 😮

Canva is a great outlet! Singing and dancing too. I tend to do those absentmindedly. 😁
Hope your writing course pays off, Michelle!
I couldn’t sing to save my life. Exciting for you to try so many things.
I hope the courses bring you much success. 🙂

I’ve never played with Canva but I used Photoshop a lot.
Can a can be a lot of fun.
