The Pavement Bookworm – We Are The World Blogfest #WATWB
It’s the last Friday of the month and it’s the aim of We Are The World Blogfest to shine a little light on any darkness in the world or in ourselves by sharing uplifting stories. This gathering takes place once a month.
I’m a co-host for this month, alongside the following amazing people: Lynn Hallbrooks, Sylvia Stein, Sylvia McGrath and Belinda Witzenhausen
Twenty four year old Philani Dladla is one of the most inspirational young South Africans you’re likely to meet. An avid reader with an insatiable desire for knowledge, Philani has used his love for books to overcome drug addiction and change his lot in life – while trying to do the same for others.

NOW HE HAS HIS OWN BOOK!
Philani knows the power books have to change society and wants to share the gift with as many underprivileged children as possible through his story. It is a story that has the power to motivate and inspire and Philani needs your help in purchasing copies of his book to give away to literacy charities or charities as you see fit.

Hi Michelle – what an amazing story and brilliant young man – he really is an entrepreneur isn’t he – he’s taken the initiative and is still going with it … absolutely fantastic to read about and to listen to his story … he will go far – and yes his book is on my radar. Thanks so much for highlighting for us … I love the title of his book … so clever and so true… cheers Hilary

His excerpt from his book is so well written and gives us an insight into his life. I loved his TV appearance. I’ll look out his book for sure. Thanks Michelle! Have a great weekend!
That he wants to help others now is great!
What an inspirational story!
What an uplifting and delightful story – Philani is a bright star indeed! I’m glad you brought this story to our attention, and thanks for co-hosting this month.
What a wonderful way to pass on what he learned and help others.
I wrote about the power of books to change a child’s life, too. Can’t focus on the connection between books and improvement too often. Great story.
What a beautiful story! So inspiring that this man now wants to help others with his gift. And it’s such a wonderful testament to the power of reading and books. 🙂
Yay for Philani. I love him already. Pavement bookworm, how cool! The love of literature is a powerful force for good. He is proof perfect of it. Thanks for this, Michelle Simon’s Still Stanza #WATWB
Love of literature conquers all!
As an avid reader, I love this story and I just love his attitude. Philani is sharing his love of reading with others so they can too feel the way he does. I would love to see his book out there for everyone to see. Thanks so much for sharing this! #WATWB
When I watched Bill Moyers interview the brilliant mythologist Joseph Campbell years ago, I was struck by Campbell’s assertion that writers are the shamans of contemporary times. Philani has proven this assertion by his actions and determination. Thanks for sharing this lovely and inspiring story. Cinda
I loved this story and hearing how this young man has turned his life around and books have brought all those positive changes to him and now he wants to pave it forward to others. This is so inspirational and moving.
The video wouldn’t play for me, sadly, but the excerpt from the book is brilliant. Kudos to this man for taking the initiative to change not only his own life but that of others. Thanks for sharing this, Michelle—and for co-hosting this month’s #WATWB 🙂

Brilliant. I needed some inspiration today. Thank you for sharing, Michelle.
Good for Philani to have made it out of his old life and into a new one! His excerpt sounds like a book I would like to read. I love inspirational stories like his. How wonderful that news media sites are picking up his story, too. Thanks for sharing this Michelle!
