W is for WAQIF

Welcome to all you wonderful wordsmiths who, at this stage, are also weary, washed-out, wrecked worrywarts and waffling along to the end of the challenge. Well done to all you whacky, wise-crack writers who are wavering and wringing your hands in wild wonder as you whoooooooosh warmheartedly across the blogoverse. Wow! Three days left. Whoopee! *whistles*

The PinYin A to Z Project

Yóu xì bî mò fãn yì fei huà……..

— is an old Chinese philosophy which refers to somebody who has the innate ability to decipher unusual words.

JUST JOKING.

(you can read the details about this challenge and the competition running throughout the month of April)

The word for Day 23 is—

                                    WAQIF

The thumping sound in my brain as it drains, minute-by-minute, trying to cope with the A to Z madness…   WAQif WAQif WAQif WAQif WAQif WAQif WAQif……..

So that's my definition. What's yours? Post it in the comment box below. Remember you stand to win a prize.

  2. Shelly on April 26, 2013 at 2:37 pm

Lately, I'm pretty exhausted with fried brains. I don't think its thumping all that much.

    Hugs and chocolate,

    Shelly

You're right. The thumping stage has passed. It's now NUMB. 🙂

WAQIF is an acronym for World Association of Qualified Intellectual Frauds.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 29, 2013 at 8:03 pm

Whoa! You mean those wolfish wicked wastrels who waste their wages and waylay unsuspecting victims…?

  4. Tyrean on April 26, 2013 at 3:36 pm

Carol's definition has me cracking up. Umm.

Waqif . . .A hat and scarf combination that protects the wearer from the wild ice storms on the fictional planet Ghaquin.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 29, 2013 at 8:06 pm

Wow! You whipped up a way-out but wonderful definition, Tyrean!

I think it stands for Writers Attempting Queries in Force.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 29, 2013 at 8:22 pm

Hmmm… that sounds like a strategy of sorts… reminds me of DL's blog blitz concept… hey what about a query blitz? It could be called a Query Quake?

It's got to be an expression when a person is confused or shocked about hearing something.

WAQUIF? You've got to be kidding me….

  7. Michael Di Gesu on April 26, 2013 at 7:25 pm

Oh, I just read Alex's response… GOOD ONE!!!

Waqif is a government developed organism. They say it's being developed to clean spilt oil from the oceans. But many know that they really want these organisms to find more oil reserves closer to the ocean floor. Some activists actually believe the government is trying to grow them into more labor intensive creatures which would actually do the digging enough for a simpler extraction of the oil.

There could be some good possibilities from this, but all I can think of is the movie Mimic.

    • Michelle Wallace on April 29, 2013 at 8:48 pm

Well, since I'm movie-challenged, that means you lost me at the end…

All I can think is some kind of arcane programming language.

  12. L. Diane Wolfe on April 26, 2013 at 10:56 pm

It's yet another computer program I can't master.

This has me stumped. Interesting word.

WAQIF – Parents of young children who have night terrors, or want to eat breakfast before 6am often say, " WAQIF there is an emergency; otherwise let me sleep."

    • Michelle Wallace on April 29, 2013 at 9:32 pm

… and I'll be quoting the above words when the A to Z Challenge is over… because I need sleep…

  17. Misha on April 27, 2013 at 12:17 pm

Hmmm… It's a question used by a writer that heard "What if" wrong the first time.

  18. Michelle Wallace on April 29, 2013 at 9:35 pm

I'm not surprised that writers hear wrong phrases… considering that there are always characters inside their heads, clamouring for attention too…  the hearing becomes impaired… LOL
