To celebrate the release of Jessica Bell’s latest novel, WHITE LADY, she is giving away an e-copy (mobi, ePub, or PDF) to the first person to correctly guess the one true statement in the three statements below. To clarify, two statements are lies, and one is true:

Jessica Bell has … in her house.

a. a music studio

b. five broken heaters

c. a big blood stain on her office wall from the previous owner

What do you think? Which one is true? Write your guess in the comments, along with your email address. Comments will close in 48 hours. If no-one guesses correctly within in 48 hours, comments will stay open until someone does.

Want more chances to win? You have until October 31 to visit all the blogs where Jessica will share a different set of true and false statements on each one. Remember, each blog is open to comments for 48 hours only from the time of posting.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

*This novel contains coarse language, violence, and sexual themes.

Sonia yearns for sharp objects and blood. But now that she’s rehabilitating herself as a “normal” mother and mathematics teacher, it’s time to stop dreaming about slicing people’s throats.

While being the wife of Melbourne’s leading drug lord and simultaneously dating his best mate is not ideal, she’s determined to make it work.

It does work. Until Mia, her lover’s daughter, starts exchanging saliva with her son, Mick. They plan to commit a crime behind Sonia’s back. It isn’t long before she finds out and gets involved to protect them.

But is protecting the kids really Sonia’s motive?

It’s time for WHACKY WORDS! Remember, this is supposed to be FUN!

Thank you to everybody who played along for the previous word. The real meaning of the word Frottage is – the technique of creating a design by rubbing (as with a pencil) over an object placed underneath the paper. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frot

The definition that caught my imagination was posted by –well, there were two that I really liked. HEATHER GARDNER posted: how high a frog will jump when goosed with an electric current. LOL (Gotta tell you that I’m still stuck with that mental image…poor toad). KRYSTAL JANE posted: to frollick daintily in a vast field of fragrant flowers (preferably tall ones) whilst singing folk songs. “Mandy is in the backyard frottaging and breaking in her new Mary Janes.” I love the light-hearted, alliteration-styled answer! Congratulations Heather and Krystal! I’ll contact you shortly.

Today’s word is

                                       GEWGAWS

This is that special baby language – the goo-goo-goo gaa-gaa-gaa da-da-da ta-ta-ta language… those first sounds produced by babies who are learning to speak.

Baby Talk Stock Photography - Image: 8504562That’s my definition. (The word does have a meaning, but you are invited to play along by providing your own original meaning. No cheating and looking up the word. I’ll post the meaning next week). So do you wanna play along? Leave your definition in the comment section below.

Thanks so much for having me today! I’ll be back in a couple of days to check comments. 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:41 pm

It was great hosting you, Jessica!
Good luck with the book sales! 🙂

  2. L. Diane Wolfe on October 13, 2014 at 11:54 am

If it’s the blood stain, then that is really creepy.

I’m looking forward to Joy’s blogfest next month.

  3. Alex J. Cavanaugh on October 13, 2014 at 1:00 pm

I think she has a music studio. (Which would be incredibly awesome!)
GeeGaws – it was the sequel to HeeHaw. (Old country variety show from the 1970’s, in case you had no idea.)

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:43 pm

I was also thinking music studio…but then that sounds too obvious…and it’s the wrong answer anyway.
That sounds like the perfect name for a sequel to an old country variety show… 😉

  4. Julie Flanders on October 13, 2014 at 1:13 pm

I’ve been seeing Jessica all over the blogosphere and that cover creeps me out every time I see it. Definitely want to read this one. Congrats, Jessica!

  5. Heather M. Gardner on October 13, 2014 at 2:57 pm

Awesome cover, Jessica! Best of luck!

Thank you, Michelle! I agree. Poor toad. 🙂
I like Alex’s definition for GewGaw!

    Heather

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:44 pm

I’m still thinking about that poor toad… 🙂

  6. J.L.Campbell on October 13, 2014 at 3:26 pm

    Hi, Michelle,

Jessica’s book sounds all kinds of dangerous.
Thanks for sharing the blogfest into. You’re a wonderful co-pilot.

GEWGAWS sounds like useless stuff wives would love to throw out as junk, but husbands claim are invaluable.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:47 pm

Thanks for inviting me to join you as co-pilot, Joy! I’m honored. :*
I like your definition. I’m sure my hubby’s tool shed is overflowing with gewgaws!

  7. Sammy D on October 13, 2014 at 3:47 pm

Gee Gaw! Jessica sounds like an author I need to be reading! Thanks, Michelle, for featuring her.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:48 pm

I love the way you incorporated the word into your response, Sammy! 😉

  8. krystal jane on October 13, 2014 at 4:48 pm

Yay! ^_^ And I totally love those kinds of drawings. I used to do them all the time as a kid. It’s no wonder I felt such a strong connection to the word. ^_^

I’m going with number 2 for the truth. A music studio is super cool! But since it’s the only cool thing on the list, I’m going with 2. I would not live in a house with a big blood stain on the wall. Yeech!

GeeGaws – the muscles in your jaw that lock up when you laugh too much. 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:50 pm

You’re the winner of Jessica’s book! Congrats! 🙂
I like your definition. My gewgaws lock up on a regular basis…I’m always laughing!

  9. joylene on October 13, 2014 at 5:07 pm

    I think it’s C. Course I’m late. Drats!

  10. Jemi Fraser on October 13, 2014 at 5:14 pm

    Congrats to Jess!
Gewgaws – knick knacks that make noise 🙂

    • Carol Kilgore on October 13, 2014 at 7:38 pm

GEWGAWS – Knots on a cave wall formed from petrified tree roots.

      I think Jessica’s lie is A.

      • Carol Kilgore on October 13, 2014 at 7:39 pm

I meant truth. TRUTH = A. This is not the first time I’ve messed this up. What’s wrong with me? I need a new brain. Quickly.

      • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 2:12 pm

I LOVE your answer. I can see those knots quite clearly. 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:52 pm

I love the word knick knacks…also odds ‘n sodds, and paraphernalia. 😉

  11. C. Lee McKenzie on October 13, 2014 at 8:15 pm

I loved Gwen’s definition, too. I’m still chuckling.

I’ve already won Jessica’s book, so I’ll just enjoy thinking about the right answer.

  12. Quanie Miller on October 13, 2014 at 9:45 pm

Congrats, Jessica! And my guess is b: five broken heaters. And love Alex’s definition of GewGaws, lol.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:53 pm

5 broken heaters is the correct answer, but Krystal beat you to it… 🙂

  13. Tyrean on October 13, 2014 at 9:47 pm

Gewgaws are the type of thing that end up in your junk drawer . . . or are they bits of jewelry. I just can’t remember. 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:55 pm

Bits ‘n bobs…odds ‘n sodds…it can be whatever you want it to be. Remember, you’re inventing your own definition 😉

  14. Beth on October 13, 2014 at 11:55 pm

congrats to Jessica!! and so funny, I can’t think of a definition b/c I call my grandmother “Gee-Gee” (I know, weird, but my brother coined it before I was born and it just stuck) so seeing Gew-Gaws just makes me think of Gee-Gee. haha

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:57 pm

That’s similar to my thinking…sort of…it does sound like the kind of thing a toddler would say. 😉

  15. Trisha on October 14, 2014 at 7:45 am

My guess for the correct statement is the 5 broken heaters! 😛 But yes, it’s a totally wild guess.

Congrats, Jessica!! I received my print copy in the mail the other day & it looks so damn pretty!!! Can’t wait to get stuck into reading it. 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 1:58 pm

A print copy? You are so lucky! Happy Reading! 🙂

  16. Hilary on October 14, 2014 at 2:38 pm

    Hi Michelle – I’ve already won a copy of Jess’ book – aren’t I lucky!?! The answer, although I know I can’t win, I’d guess #2 .. 5 broken heaters …

GewGaws … trinkets I’m a thinking … cheers to you and Jess – Hilary

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm

I agree that it sounds like trinkets…those shiny, baubles and thinggies that you keep in a jewellry case (that jewellry box that has the dancing ballerina when you open it) 😉

  17. S. Katherine Anthony on October 14, 2014 at 3:00 pm

Hmmm, I’m going with C as the lie but only because it freaks me out a bit. On the other hand, it might have been the inspiration for the blood in the book lol

GeeGaws—the only thing that comes to mind is a cowboy with a bad cold trying really really hard to scream Yeehaw! lol

  18. Cherie Reich on October 14, 2014 at 6:47 pm

Congrats to Jessica! I enjoyed reading White Lady.

  19. Christine Rains on October 14, 2014 at 10:36 pm

I hope the blood stain isn’t true. Yikes! Yay for Jessica! 🙂

GeeGaws – The even more hillbilly cousins of the HeeHaw gang.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 2:02 pm

LOL to your hillybilly cousin answer! 🙂
Now I’m thinking of Honey-Boo-Boo (only learned about her recently)

  20. Nas on October 14, 2014 at 11:49 pm

Congratulations Jessica! I definitely plan on reading this book!

  21. Crystal Collier on October 15, 2014 at 4:32 pm

Jessica definitely has a music studio in her house. No questions there. A.

Looking forward to the hero blog hop. I’m going to be a day late because of another commitment, but I’m still playing along. Looking forward to all the cool entries too!

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 2:04 pm

I also thought so. We’re BOTH wrong.
Glad to hear you’re joining us for the hop, Crystal! 😉

  22. Loni Townsend on October 15, 2014 at 8:13 pm

Gewgaw – the sound a baby goose makes when it steps into something it doesn’t like.

    Grats to Jessica!

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 2:05 pm

Cute image of the baby goose…and I can imagine the cute sound it makes!
      Thanks Loni! 🙂

  23. Jessica Bell on October 16, 2014 at 9:38 am

Thanks for dropping by everyone and guessing in the quiz! krystal jane you are the first to have guessed correctly so you have won the book! Could you please email me jessica.carmen.bell(at)gmail.com and I’ll send you a link to download the book. Cheers!

  24. Southpaw on October 16, 2014 at 2:47 pm

    I say A is true. Let’s hope it’s not C.

  25. Stephanie Faris on October 16, 2014 at 3:44 pm

I would hope there isn’t a big blood stain in her house. Yikes!!!

  26. Robyn Campbell on October 16, 2014 at 4:38 pm

YaY Jessica! Wahoo! She’s all over the interwebs. I cannot wait to read her book. Love, love, love her writing.

Geegaw – what Robyn says when eating a peanut butter sandwich while her horse, Mr. Ed is doing a Crow Hop.

*waves a peace sign at Michelle* 🙂

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 2:08 pm

Jessica writes gritty in-your-face stuff! Her writing is great!
Sounds like both you and Mr. Ed are having a blast! 🙂

  27. Karen Lange on October 16, 2014 at 7:08 pm

Congrats to Jessica! I like Alex’s and Tyrean’s definitions. 🙂 Thanks Michelle, for your comment on Robyn’s blog. Appreciate your enthusiasm and support!

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 2:09 pm

      Thanks for popping in, Karen.
Your book sounds handy…good luck with the sales! 😉

  28. Romance Reader on October 17, 2014 at 12:09 am

Congratulations to Jessica. I have her book, just need time to read.

  29. Leslie S. Rose on October 17, 2014 at 1:32 am

I’ve definitely found the book I’m going to read in front of the fire on Halloween to spook myself. That cover gave me the shivers. My grandpa used the word gewgaws all the time, so I must recuse myself from the competition.

    • Michelle Wallace on October 17, 2014 at 2:10 pm

      Hey Leslie! *waving*
      Enjoy your Halloween reading! 🙂

  30. Medeia Sharif on October 20, 2014 at 12:10 am

I already read a copy, so don’t enter me. I’m still guessing b.

I like your definition of gewgaws.

  31. Celine on October 20, 2014 at 5:02 am

That’s a fun game, reminds me of that English TV show – would I lie to you (celebrities make outrageous statements and their team mates have to guess if they’re lying).
Jess, you need a plumber in your life with those five heaters! Congrats on the book it sounds great.

Gewgaws are special parasites that live in the throats of certain people from the deep South of the US, it’s what creates that thick, hillbilly kind of accent (which I love by the way, I want to get me a Gewgaw)

  32. Shelly on October 21, 2014 at 4:40 pm

    Loved both of your pieces.

    Hugs and chocolate!
