Y is for Yippee-Yay!

Day 25 of the challenge!

My theme is NIFTY NUGGETS. Little nuggets of writing based on a photo, a phrase and an object, which is designed to encourage lean, tight writing. I’m aiming for a word count of under 300 words.

Thank you to L.Diane Wolfe for providing the beautiful photo prompts.Β  You can visit her blog to check out more pictures.

YIPPEE-YAY!

YIPPEE-YAY!

PHRASE – play havoc with

OBJECT – dice

Life became a never-ending shindig.

Dicing with danger had never been on my party list, and soon we were dubbed the rollercoaster revellers with a penchant for living on the wild side.

The initial rollercoaster craze soon passed, and was followed by white water racing and then came… bungee jumping.

Poised and waiting we’d throw caution to the wind. Ignore the many voices in your head, telling you that it is utter madness.

A twinge of doubt.

A fractional hesitation as a thousand thoughts play havoc with your mind.

What ifs?

Maybes…

Spontaneity wins the day.

An adrenaline fuelled impulse drives you.

Push everything aside and take the plunge.

Indulge in a careless disregard.

A moment of wildness, unrestrained.

Recklessness your ally in these seconds of freedom.

Terra firma rises up to meet you.

You hurtle forward to make its acquaintance.

At the last minute, you are snatched away.

Love it. Great use of short, sharp sentences. Very visual.

You made my stomach do a few loops, Michelle. Great roller coaster ride and great image of one, too.

You really captured the moment. Not a chance I’d do that.

… and I’ll have you know that I’m not writing from experience…

Thought it was going to be Yippee-Yay, we’re nearly finished. πŸ™‚
Should have known better. Another exciting nugget. Thanks, Michelle, for the entertaining fast read.

I’m not sure I would try bungee jumping, but I’ll get on any roller coaster out there.

That one in the image is now the Harry Potter coaster. When I rode it, it was called Dueling Dragons. I’ve always thought that was a far better name.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 1, 2015 at 7:40 am

Dueling Dragons is the perfect name.
Diane, you are one of the Rollercoaster Revellers. πŸ™‚

    Hey Michelle!

Great stuff, Michelle. And at the last minute, you are snatched away from the grips of the alphabet monster who commands you to write about the alphabet forever and then some. Yippee-Yay! πŸ™‚

Gary, at this moment I’m happy to be snatched away from the grips of the A to Z monster…
But next year I’ll be back under its spell! LOL

rather interesting style of narration, tempo matches the events, good

  8. Celine Jeanjean on April 30, 2015 at 8:01 am

Oh my, I could never do that! Bungee jumping scares me far too much.

But I second Ib Arora, the tempo of your writing works really nicely with the situation! Great nugget! πŸ™‚

Great pace in this it builds up like the roller-coaster ride.

Very nice. I think I might do more than hesitate though πŸ™‚

(PS: I sent you an email; I’m hoping the email address I have for you is correct.)

I love this! It’s probably the closest I will ever get to bungee jumping, and its vividness makes me feel like I’m not missing a whole lot. πŸ˜‰

    • Michelle Wallace on May 1, 2015 at 7:44 am

      It’s my closest too!
I agree, we’re not missing too much.

I remember the rush of such things from my younger days. I don’t need it now and would probably be too scared.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 1, 2015 at 7:46 am

      I’m also scared.
Too much of an adrenalin surge——–
      Not for me.

  13. Carol Kilgore on April 30, 2015 at 4:45 pm

Great! I’m not surprised to see a roller coaster photo from Diane πŸ™‚

Amazing piece and wonderful photo from Diane. I myself haven’t ever been on a roller coaster–I hate being upside down.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 1, 2015 at 8:22 am

      You’re not alone, Medeia.
I feel the same way. πŸ™‚

I felt like I was riding that roller coaster with you, Michelle! Only I would’ve been sick as a dog, screaming for my life. Fortunately, you chose a more elegant approach.

    • Michelle Wallace on May 2, 2015 at 8:00 pm

An elegant approach to a crazy ride… interesting. πŸ™‚
