Y is for You Cannot Change Reality…

Welcome to your daily dose of inspiration:
In Darkness Be Light.

Since social media and news in recent times has been filled with so much hate and negativity, these simple reminders aim at promoting positivity and lightening up your day.

You cannot change reality, but you can control the manner in which you look at things. Your attitude is under your own control. Weed out the negative and focus on the positive!  Helen Steiner Rice

Would you like to be a part of spreading positivity? Check out the We Are The World Blogfest, which aims at promoting positive news. Here’s the shortened version:

  • Keep your post to below 500 words, as much as possible.
  • All we ask is you link to a human news story on your blog on the last Friday of each month, one that shows love, humanity, and brotherhood. Something like this news, about a man who only fosters terminally ill children.
  • Join us on the last Friday of each month in sharing news.

    Acceptance is the step before looking at something with positive attitude. If we accept the reality as it is, we can discern its various facets. It sure then throws light on the better part of the reality!

    This is very true. Sometimes it can be hard to find the positive to focus on at first, but once you’ve found it, it can definitely help change your way of thinking.

    No, I do not find this an easy task, Michelle. At least, not always. Often my mind becomes irritated, mulling some inconvenience that has me in a snit. I have to stop and remind myself of the rules: if I can’t change it than I need to ignore it! So easy to say, much more difficult to accomplish. I guess this is called living.

    Always trying! There is usually an upside to be found somewhere in every situation.

    I love the serenity prayer specifically for this reason.

    “God grant me the serenity
    to accept the things I cannot change;
    courage to change the things I can;
    and wisdom to know the difference.”

    It has been easier for me this month to weed out the negative. I have been focused on writing positive or at least non-negative posts for the A to Z. That has kept me thinking positive thoughts as I try to come up with a topic that might have potential.

    I’ll be joining the blogfest 🙂 Thanks for the information on it!

    I’m not sure about ‘controlling’ one’s own attitude. But yes, instead of just always focusing on the negative of any/every situation, it could be wiser to wonder about ‘the situation’ in a different, more compassionate way. This would expand or broaden our attitude, hopefully.

    I do try to do this as much as I’m able. For me, it’s about not getting upset about the little things. Of course, what “little” is varies from person to person. 🙂

    Hi Michelle – unfortunately life is full of the ups and downs, the negatives and the positives … the positives will always be there somewhere … we just need to see the gentle road forward to a more peaceful path – a positive path … I learnt to do this when my mother was ill – but I am a person of my glass is always half full … and I follow that route – can’t change things -just need to get on. Cheers Hilary

    I agree, our reactions definitely help decide the outcome of a situation. I wasn’t able to post for ‘We are the World,’ last Friday due to the hectic A-Z schedule. Hope to be a part of it next month.

    I am doing better about weeding out the negative. Your words of wisdom throughout the #AtoZChallenge has helped out. ~ fellow #WATWB member
